What is Qigong?
Qigong is an ancient Chinese exercise that includes meditation, controlled breathing, mental concentration and a selection of movement exercises.
Hellen- Kang Griffith provides Waterford’s leading Qigong instruction and has over seventeen years experience practising the art of Qigong. Hellen originally comes from Shanghai, China ensuring that she learned the art from authentic instructors in its country of origin.
The best thing about Qigong is that it can be done by anybody - any age, any gender and any physical ability. Qigong is particularly useful for anybody who is suffering from ongoing muscle pain.
Benefits of Qigong
Reduces Pain
Qigong exercises for one to two hours per day has been shown to reduce pain for those suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.
Decreased Levels of Stress
Practising Qigong on a regular basis has been shown to improve nervous system activity while simultaneously reducing stress hormone levels.
Experiencing stress on a frequent basis has been shown to significantly increase the risk of disease and other illnesses.
Joint and Muscular Health Improvement
Qigong facilitates optimum oxygen and blood flow to muscles and joints allowing them to strengthen and heal faster
Improved Sleep
The stress reducing benefits of Qigong allows for deeper and more peaceful sleep
Boosts Immune System
There has been studies to show that Qigong practice increases the quantities of monocyte and lymphocytes – two white blood cell types that make up the majority of the lymphatic immune system AKA helps to fight those bugs and flus!
Improves Digestion
Qigong has been proven to aid the functionality of the digestive system. In the practice of Qigong, certain movements stimulate these meridians and therefore stimulate the actual organs to function at their best.
Improves Balance
The sequence of movement in Qigong creates blood-flow and oxygen to the muscles and joints which not only allows them to heal and strengthen but subsequently improves balance.
